Chandeliers

When designing your home with chandeliers look beyond the dining room & foyer. With so many different sizes, shapes, styles and finishes to choose from; chandeliers can go just about anywhere you could imagine. Chandeliers do not have to match the style of your home; however, they should match or stay in the same finish, type, and texture or style family. You also want to consider the size of the room when picking your chandelier. You do not want it to overpower the space, nor do you want it to get lost in the space.

Tip: Measure the room’s length & width and add those together. Use the number for the diameter substituting inches for feet. EX: A room 12ft X 20ft, you should look for a chandelier with a diameter of at least 30inches. You can have a big bold chandelier in a small room if you choose the right one. Thin framed or all glass is striking without taking up visual space. Be mindful of the height of the chandelier. The height of the ceiling will play a great role in this area.

If the chandelier will be hung anywhere other than over a table, and the ceiling allows. The taller family members and guest that may live or visit the space will appreciate clearance space of 7ft or more.

Last, do not rely on the chandelier as your primary light source.  You should also have sconces, floor lamps, recessed light etc… in this space.
